'packages have been kept back' with dist-upgrade

Code:
# apt-get dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
  python3-update-manager update-manager-core
0 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 2 not to upgrade.

# uname -a
Linux htpc 6.5.0-35-generic #35~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Tue May 7 09:00:52 UTC 2 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
How's this even possible? Ubuntu 22.04, just rebooted, same with apt.

If you cared to read it, you'd find out that it considers dist-upgrade to be the universal remedy. So did I, but no longer.

Try aptitude instead of apt-get. In my experience, it attempts to perform the required action more aggressively than apt-get. The downside is it may try to remove half of installed packages in the process.

lvm_,

Well actually I did read the whole article and I hoped it would be helpful to you.

As shruugy points out, you have been using apt-get as opposed to apt.

I hope you resolve your problem soon.

if the ones that are held back put in a separate apt-get install statement. you might need to use sudo. putting those held-back programs into an apt-get install statement will install them. I've had to do that myself after I googled about this and this is what I learned to do. i use the apt-fast front-end but it still works the same.
