YUM

Ok, I've been having the same issue with Yum for the past week after rolling through install procedure after the next. I go through and install Yum and no matter the "yum install *insert_name*" I choose the process just hangs.

This is the only procedure that seems to work, prior to the hanging:

Any ideas? This is for RHEL 4.8 ES. Sorry for all the questions but this new box has only been going down hill.

Unhappy

To install yum in any RHEL distro you need to have a valid license from Red Hat. If you really need yum your only option is to use Fedora.

After installing yum, did you do a yum update and get everything updated?

AFAIK, isn't the up2date the normal means of package management on the Red Hat EL systems? Why not use that instead?

as far as I know in RHEL 4 up2date is the default
rhel 5 is yum

if you have a valid license from red hat then CALL RED HAT
you are paying them for support .
