Wink Why server went down?


Hi,
This is a common question. My server got struck as i was unable to run even the top command or init 6. I went for a warm reboot.
Now , where can i look for the logs why it get crash or hang?
shall i know , which process make the server to hang before reboot?
any idea?

Depends. If it's due to a kernel crash there might be some stack trace info in the /var/log/messages, if it's anything else you'll need monitoring tools (Dstat, Atsar, Atop) running *before the crash*.

Well, you could look at all your application logs and generally audit the box. Maybe there's even core dumps.

Maybe the server was under too much load and was became completely unresponsive
