We have a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (i586) (hostname: XYZ) vmware server running on ESX 4.1(VMWare ESX box),
The server had 2GB of RAM, after we have tried to increase the RAM to 4GB
It increased upto 3GB only in the guest OS but in ESX side(properties of XYZ)it shows 4GB.
Could anyone suggest how to solve this issue.
PS: In VMWare RAM limit for that particular XYZ host is unlimited, is there any changes needs to be done in guest OS to take this effect.
the same version of some other server has 6GB of RAM.
Please suggest.
As cascade9 suggested install the PAE kernel as there is max detection of RAM limit in normal kernel of 4 GB
just change your kernel to kernel-PAE if you want your server to detect RAM more than 4 Gb
You can check the kernel of the other server you are talking about having 6 GB RAM
I am not very sure about SUSE but in RHEL we use yum to change the kernel
Code:
#yum install kernel-PAE
and restart the server, at the time of kernel option you will be asked to choose your default kernel. make the selection and boot your server.
In SUSE as per my knowledge the same can be done through YAST or "Add or remove software". You can search a bit for the same. All you need to do is install "kernel-PAE" from the repos.
