How did you install openldap? Slackware comes with openldap-client and you'll need the server in order to do what you want.
Read this to see how you can rebuild the openldap package adding the server part, or search to see if you can find a package that includes the server.

Regards

finally I got my LDAP server up n running.
Now I got a new prob. I want implement a single sign out system in my network. For that I think nss_ldap is better (read at many places that PAM is difficult to install).
To install nss_ldap I downloaded package from padl.com.
./configure command works well but when I run "make" it shows error which m not able to understand.
something like this:-

"/usr/local/include/ldap.h:2080: error: previous declaration of 'ldap_create_page_control' was here
pagectrl.h:37: error: conflicting types for 'ldap_parse_page_control'
/usr/local/include/ldap.h:2089: error: previous declaration of 'ldap_parse_page_control' was here"

any suggestions??

It works here with openldap-24.21, so I guess your openldap version is a bit outdated.

I cannot tell, but I don't think that 2.4.19 is incompatible. Does line 2080 of /usr/local/include/ldap.h contains the following?
Quote:
ldap_create_page_control LDAP_P((
I guess that your openldap conflicts with Slackware's openldap-client. How did you install opeldap?
