tar command


hello there,

i'm using cronjob to backup mysql database folder ..after a year mysql growing big. i wonder how do i know after tar -czvf backmy.tar /usr/local/mysql is exceeded 20GB tape capacity. if i use Windows after first tape full....a messege come out to let adminitartor enter second tape....

how to handle this....tq

Hi,

Although I never used this option myself, I do believe that the --tape-length=NUMBER option could be of help.

A quick search produced this link (among others), that explains the usage (-M must also be used) and has some examples.
