Sometimes last input data excel files on samba missing ???
Hi all, on my network there is one user eng01 sometimes her excel files on
samba has been missing on the last input files, is there any enlightment about this, a months a go i've been remove crontab 775(so anyone can't edit her file) on her folder file but today her update file 30th septembet missing to 9th september, everyday i always backup using rsync
and i've checked the size file september file on backup harddisk is 11MB
but on HDD access just 5,8MB, i've opened the backup file september from hdd backup but it's more strange cause the contents is missing update to 31st August.
Could you give us just a little more detail, what OSs are in use, where is the Samba server and what is it running on, and what is the user using to access it? If I could get those details, we may get started down the right track to finding out where your missing data is going (I empathize with you as I have had some lost data as well). So, if you could reply with the info I requested we can start some troubleshooting and see if we can get you all fixed up!
Sorry, the user using Windows XP SP2 and Microsoft Office Excel 2003, and for the
server running Open Suse 10.2.
On the Linux Suse running crontab file i've inputed and ntp server also backup regularly.
right now i've been change user pc and i will try to reinstall that pc(see if it will affect).
Hi akakingess, on Friday i had reinstalling the windows and until now i didn't see any problem but i'm afraid if in the 1 month or 2 week the
same problem will show on again, cause for 2.5 month ago i had reinstall that pc too, before reinstall i had scan the whole pc using update
AV but not show any of virus.
Well, let's hope that it holds up, but if you want you can mark this one solved and then just contact me personally or post a new topic with a link to this current thread as reference if it comes back up again. We definitely want to follow through and make sure this is a permanent fix, and not temporary. Thanks for your patience and working with me to try to resolve your issue, and we will not give up if it happens again
