Question Soft Raid 5 and partitioning

Hi

I have a new dedicated server and i plan to install Centos 6.6 on the 3x 160gb ssd disks that i got with it (soft raid).

I will host a forum with 80gb data and a database that is now 32gb.

Can you please recommend me how to partition the disks?

Thanks

It depends on the following:

1. What is your backup plan like ?
2. Is data going to grow ?

If you have a good backup plan and you have bin-logs enabled within MySQL then I would not bother with a RAID and just LVM and make two Logical volumes.
One for system about 20 Gb (including /var/log/) and give 140GB for the forum data and MySQL.

If you do not have a good backup plan then RAID 5.

Rocky.

Hi

I want to ask if i use this:

/boot
/
/home
/var
/tmp
swap

Which of them can be set as logical as i can have only 4 Primary partitions?

Centos 6.6 64Bit

Thanks

1. RAID != backup; they are 2 completely different things
2. You can set one of the primary's eg the last one, to be an extended partition, then create logical ones inside.
eg https://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5...ended-x86.html
