SMTP--direct deliver for most and SMART_HOST when sending to certain domains

Our company has a Red Hat 9 server running sendmail-8.12.8-9.90. That server sends out all our mail. As organizations clamp down on spam, we are having trouble delivering mail directly to certain domains without using our ISP's SMTP server. The problem is that the ISP's server is slow and has restrictions on the number of emails that can be sent. Our monthly newsletter to 400 subscribers puts us over our ISP's limit.

Since there are only a handful of domains that won't allow us to directly deliver, is there a way to configure our SMTP server to directly deliver to all domains except for that handful and have those sent via the ISP's server. I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to go about this. I'm willing to convert to Qmail, etc if that's what it takes to accomplish this goal.

Thanks,

Andy

i am also very interested to see a solution to this problem, as it is closley related to my own needs.

Currently, all outgoing mail from my users on my domain is sent through my SMTP/Sendmail... but due to the fact that my SMTP server sits on a Comcast cable modem, users on my domain are not able to send mail to any user on the Comcast.net domain via my SMTP server. Comcast has got it rigged that way somehow, for security I guess.

I need to make it so that any outbound mail to the comcast.net domain gets sent via smtp.comcast.net instead of my SMTP. Of course, I have a comcast email account, so I'm sure I could authenticate with their server... I just have no clue how to setup such a scheme in sendmail.

I am running Ubuntu Edgy, and am doing most all configuration via Webmin. Any help would be appreciated!

I haven't had to do this, but the mailertable should do what you need. Have a look at the following:
