Samba Share Help (Permissions)

I can't understand why when I user creates a file or folder in the share, the permissions are not what they are specified to be forced from the smb.conf.

Here is the share:

        comment = test share (don't use this!!!)
        path = /share/test
        write list = cwilliams twooding mwilshaw
        directory mask = 0750
        create mask = 0750

Now when I login as cwilliams and create a file and folder I expect them to both be rwx r-x --- however I get the following results and I don't know why...

drwxr-x---  2 cwilliams ctia 4096 Feb  7 15:16 test
-rwxr-----  1 cwilliams ctia    0 Feb  7 15:16 test.txt

It appears that my directory mask is correct however my create mask is coming up as 740 rather than 750...anyone know what I did wrong?

This was not on a Debian specific server. Specifically it was RHEL / CENTOS but I don't think that makes a difference. Its all the same samba config when it comes down to the basics.
