rsync delima

I'm trying to rsync a directory (and sub-directories underneath that directory) to another server. But it seems like every time rsync starts, it:

[1] tries to rsync the files it has already rsyncd a few seconds ago and files which have not changed since the last rsync.

[2] changes the ownership of all files to root:root

The command I'm using as root:

Code:
# rsync -avz -e ssh --progress --recursive --delete \
normal_user@server:/home/me/* /home/me
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

1) Try using the --delete-after option instead of --delete
2) Try adding the -o and -g options to preserve owner / group (assuming you're running as root)
