pure-ftpd shuts down.

Ok, i have a server with pure-ftpd running, it runs fine but after a random amount of time(usually a few hours) it shuts down and i have to restart it, i checked the syslog but there are no errors.

What can cause it randomly shutting down, and how can i fix it ?

Thanks for your time, Xeross

You need to post some error message(s) before anyone can help you. Also, some information about the server (what distro? what environment? what version of linux and pure-ftp?). The syslog is only one place to look...the FTP daemon will also probably have its own log file, which may contain the error.

Also, check your syslog config...may want to make sure it's logging everything. If you have syslog-ng installed, daemon errors may be going to a different file, other than the standard syslog. If you've got it all into one location, you can adjust the 'verbosity' of things, to catch more events.

Without anything to go on, other than "it shuts down", there's no way anyone could provide any insight.

Distro: Debian 4.0

pure-ftpd doesn't keep it's own log file, you can specify one but normally it outputs to syslog.
It was designed to be extremly light weight http://www.pureftpd.org/
it doesn't even have a config file(you can optionally create one).
Edit: Facepalm, i started it from ssh as i leave that open most of the time, but as soon as i close it pure-ftpd will close.
