I am installing Suse 10.3 on a Compaq Proliant Generation 1 Sever

Specification server:
Compaq Proliant DL380 Generation 1 Server
Dual Pentium III 733/133MHz with 256 kbyte Cache
512MB Ram
Integrated Smart Array Controller
Three 9.1MB pluggable Hard Drive

In the installing process I receive this message:
An error occurred during initrd creation
kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-26.22.5-31 default
initrd image: /boot/initrd-26.22.5-35 default
root device /dev/ida/c0d0p2 (mounted on/ as ext 3)
device ida!c0d0p not found in sysfs
script /lib/mkinitrd/setup/72-block.sh failed!

When I click on Ok, the only option after the error, the server restart and display this message:
root (hd0.1)
file system type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/vmlinuz 2.6.22.5-31-
default root=/dev/ida/c0d0p2
vga=0X317
acp=off
resume=/dev/ida/c0d0p1 splash=silent showopts
[linux-bzImage, setup=0x1e00,size=0x1831d8]
initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.22.5-31-default
Error 15:File not found
Press any key to contunue

If I click a key I return to the same page.

Can some one help me solve this problem.
I am new in Linux.

Watafisi,

Regards

Dear Watafisi,
SuSE 10.3 could not be installed on my Asus laptop either, not at all; but SuSE 11 is beautiful, and worth a little expense, trouble or time. It works fine on the same computer, and seems far superior to Vista. So excellent!
Good wishes...Nityanandi

Dear Nityanadi,

I will download Open Suse 11 and try it. I don,t know if you suggest to work only with the commercial version of Suse 11.

Thank you,

Watafisi

Hello,

I too had a ProLiant (ML570) which i couldn't install SuSE on. It has something to do with the raid controller that is built into the chipset. I even upgraded it to a Compaq SmartArray 5300 (Ultra2 160) and still no go.

If i can make a couple of suggestions:

Beginner Server:
WWW, Gateway, Firewall, FTP etc.
Clark Connect -- www.clarkconnect.org
Based on CentOS and is very easy to administer (web based admin)

Advanced "Do It Yourself" Server:
Any server app you choose
CentOS 5.2
Based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Hope this helps!

suse 11 installation

Watafisi,
Really good news, because you will probably love it. After many Linux distros, i have to feel that SuSE is the finest.

No...not a commercial version. Just download it for your architecture, or "noarch", no architecture, works on all.

You made me very happy that i posted, because you will have good luck.
