Hi all
I am currently studying for the RHCE, i stumbled upon the postfix mail server. Everything works fine so far but i just can't figure out the difference between /etc/postfix/virtual file and /etc/aliases file.
From what i read and googled, they basically do the same function: delivering mail to the correct recipient. For example: if i want all mails directed to
admin@example.com to be delivered to root.
But what is the difference? the postfix documentation mentioned that the virtual file should not be confused with the local aliases file but it does explain more.
I would highly appreciate if someone could shed some light for me on this issue.
And please correct me if i am wrong: the /etc/canonical file does nearly the same thing except for that it rewrites the header files of the mail message to the specified address instead of just forwarding it.
Thanks a lot in advance and best regards
