possible bug in Samba 3

I am using Samba 3.0.2 and discovered it WILL NOT share any mounted volumes.
You can't share a CD or anything that isn't linked to the system volume. Any thoughts.

(e.g. mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

You can browse it using ls

add the data to the smb.conf and restart and windows won't see it.

[cdrom]
path = /mnt/cdrom
etc...

Any thoughts?

Try this: change to /mnt/cdrom with no cd inserted, then insert a cd/dvd and in another console window do the mount.
Change back to the shell sitting at /mnt/cdrom and do a "ls". You won't see the content, unless you go outta there and back in.
Same may happen to Samba daemons here.
A good idea would be to put mount/umount/eject commands in "root preexec" and "root postexec" stanzas for the cd share, so mounts are "fresh".

Btw. 3.02 is pretty aged ....

thanks Woody

Thanks Woody for your response. However I realized I failed to give a detail that drew you in another direction.

In Samba no matter what share I make available to Windows, only the shares that point directly to the system volume mount.

(e.g. /tmp, /etc.) all mount (I have stripped the samba file down to allow anyone to get in there.

However, when I share say a CD or a mount from another drive, samba fails to find it.

I will try a newer version of samba.

Fixed!

Well, I feel retarded. It was selinux disabling the mounts and therefore samba couldn't get access to them. How stupid can I feel right now -- pretty darn stupid.

Dave...
