phpmyadmin error #08S01packets out of order


when I go to localhost:3306 I get this fine gibberish

I configure phpmyadmin durign installation with the install wizard, so what seems to be the problem?

You tried to access the MySQL listening port with your browser is the problem.

I've to edit the my.cnf file to be able to acess mysql within browser/localhost ?

No changes to my.cnf should be necessary.

OK but

what's the solution? that's the way it is meant to be istn it? acces mysql databases via phpmyadmin via browser

Thanks works,
and I've another question but not that "vital" is it possible to view/edit databases not included in phpmyadim dir in /var/lib/mysql = the other databses created before the phpmyadmin install (I assume here I've to edit my.cnf) and I can't either create databases in phpmyadmin no privileges

phpmyadmin accesses your MySQL server, it's just a client to the server, so when you log in it'll show you whatever databases you are permissioned for.

So if you log in to phpmyadmin as root you'll see everything.
