Hi deepak_message,

Can you provide more details on this as to what exactly happens? Which console you are trying to login, graphical or cli? Which user account you are using, normal user account or root? What are the patches that you have applied. Even if the username is not there in /etc/passwd it should say "login incorrect" instead of "invalid user"

Are you able to login using root? Did you check your /etc/passwd file?

This is rehdat 5.6 64 bit machine. there was patching done thorugh bigfix(only perl patch was updated). and when server reboot, and I was trying to login through root, password prompt does not come from cli mode
when typing root user name, message gives login invalid and asking another user name.

It appears that you are trying to login to GUI. Did you try logging in with root account on runlevel 3? Did you try loggin with another user account in GUI?

Did you try rebooting the machine? If not then reboot and see if that makes a difference. Another thing that you can try is boot in single user mode and check /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow file. Check the time stamp on these files to see when these were last updated. Go through these files to see if there are any inconsistencies.
