MySQL & HTTP process allocation to separate processors on server

Hi,

I have 2 CPU 8 GB RAM server running MySQL & HTTP server with apps using LAMP architecture. Since last few days we are having some performance problems.

While looking at the problem i came to know both mysql and http are almost taking 100% cpu time of a single processor and the second processor is free.

Can anyone help me with redirecting the mysql load to one cpu and http load to the second one? Is it possible? If so how to do it?

Thankyou.

Greetingz!

What you're looking for is called "CPU Afinity". It's been around since 2.5.x, so there are several articles discussing how to implement it. You can also check the taskset man page.

On a side note, if you have a BIOS option to set your RAM to NUMA mode (rather than some other mode), then you seem to get better affinity. (As suggested here, here, and even here.)

EDIT: Note that if you have a multi-core CPU, you would be binding per-core, not per-socket (CPU).
