MRTG problems
I have a few issues with mrtg:
1. Need to allow a user to edit /etc/cron.d/mrtg. I did a chmod 660 and chown to root.[user] on mrtg file and restart crond service. After doing that, cron doesnt seem to execute the polling at all. Is this some restrictions on the access of the file for cron to run? I have to set the permissions back to 600 and owner/group to root for it to work again. The reason to do this is because I'm only allowing the user to run a script file that enters/removes a new device from mrtg file and do not wanna allow sudo access to the user.
2. CPU load is quite high as I am polling around 150 devices, average around 50% load, peaking to 90+% during the polling periods. Is there something i can do to optimising or lower the cpu usage during polling periods?
3. Some devices intermittently fail to poll but if i run the mrtg command on the cfg file manually there is no problem. I have also increase the timeout and retries value, it doesnt seem to help. Any ideas?
4. Does anyone know how to or has a url to setup emails trigger on threshold?
Appreciate if someone could share their experiences. Thanks!
