Angry Miranda and emacs won't play nicely together

I've loaded the functional programming language Miranda onto my server (Centos 64 bit) and tried to get it to use emacs as an editor. It appears to agree to this, but when I try to invoke the editor with /e, it complains "standard input is not a tty".

I'm assuming this indicates something wrong with my emacs installation (although I've had no problems running it from the command-line).

Can anybody help?

Thanks
