IP addressing on DNS

hello everyone,

Im very new to linux especially to ubuntu server 8.04 because it doesnt use a GUI. Now my question is on how to insert IP address in configuring DNS server using bind9. Actually i'm using this guide https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverg...iguration.html. But i m not sure on how to insert IP addresses on the primary master and secondary master. Should I insert the Ip address that i found when i type ifconfig ? or Should I assign a new IP address.

I have set up a webserver, DNS server, File server and mail server on a virtual box. For now, at first, im working with the DNS server or should I work with the web server first?what should I do?

thanks for the comments,

JeraldGM

If you use the IP address on IFCONFIG and your network is set up using NAT then it would only work locally IE if ifconfig shows an ip of 192.168.x.x or anything on a private IP then no go. if you are setting up DNS then you should have a static IP set up from a /30 or less range from your ISP (giving you 4 IP's 2 usable) for your master and slave use these IP's in your config. anything on a server that is meant for a WAN needs to use public addressing. hopefully this makes sence. i am tried and heading to bed.
