how to access apache which runs other than the default port

Hi all,

Assume that i have changed the default port of apache from 80 to 81 in http.conf file. Now i have restarted apache.

I have a domain pointed to my server.so i want to access apache page just by giving the url in the browser like this.

http://mydomain.com

But it does not work for me.Its working only when i give http://mydomain.com:81

How to get rid of this.I want to apache to run in different port number but i should not mention its port number in the url.

Your suggestions please

Thanks in advance,
Dinesh.

you can't. http defaults to port 80, that's the way it works. How else do you expect to magically tell the browser to go to a different port? Where is this information supposed to come from? You either use defaults, or you provide extra information to override it. Otherwise you need your browser to be psychic, and Google aren't *that* good at coding. Not yet.

Maybe it's worth backing up and asking WHY you're doing this. Maybe you can run a reverse proxy on the server on port 80 or something. But as you're talking about port 81 not a port number like 8080 it doesn't sound that likely to be relevant to your requirements.

well as above, you could look as a reverse proxy, maybe with the existing port 80 server. If it's apache, check out ProxyPass configurations.
