Question How do I create a local alias that catches all recipient email addresses starting with "John"?

Hi there

I use Centos7 and EXIM.

How do I create an email that catches all emails sent to an email starting with "John," e.g. john123@mydomain.com?

Thanks a lot!

You can add an alias for a local user in the /etc/aliases file. This is where the system looks for local delivery of mail in case there's email for a user not existing on the system.

That's true - but what exactly will I need to do to create an alias that catches only emails starting with "john"?
Thanks a lot!

This sounds more like you want an address book capability versus creation of aliases. To go one step further about aliases, say you manage to create a script which does detect email addresses matching the name string. How do you then discriminate to avoid duplicate aliases? I suspect you're asking a question with incorrect assumptions as to what aliases can do for you.
