Help with Samba as PDC

Hi,

I'm new to Linux and I am trying to set up a machine as Samba PDC.
I've encounted an issue where I cannot add windows machines to the domain. I can add the windows machine to the samba workgroup, map to shares on the linux machine without issues.

I can ping the linux machine from windows by using hostname.
I'm sure it is probably something I have missed when configuring samba, but I've been searching google and trying many different things without any luck.

Here is my smb.conf

# Samba config file created using SWAT

When I try to add a windows machine to the domain, I receive an error message stating the domain controller cannot be contacted.

The thing is I did have this working, but I decided I would start fresh on all the machines - I reloaded the OS on all of them. I thought I did exactly the same when configured samba again.

I did notice in linux when I type domainname in the terminal it displays none. I've edited the hosts file to display the correct hostname and domain name, I can ping the hostname name fine from windows, but I can't ping hostname.domainname.

If anyone can please assist me with this issue, that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick response.

I followed a guide to set this up as I am new to Linux, from my understanding this is a script that will run when machines are added to the domain. Please advise if I can wrong

I have managed to get this working.
I carefully went through the smb.conf line for line, there was no WINS server enabled.

I added the line:
WINS Support = Yes

Now everything works fine.

There are alot of posts when you google this issue, however I couldn't find an answer anywhere. Hopefully others new to linux will be able to reference this.

Thanks again
