1)Explain how xinetd increases the performance of a Linux server (make sure to explain the relationship between xinetd and the system memory).
2)Explain how a single Linux server can run a FTP Server, Web Server, Email Server and a Telnet server in one single box. If the IP address for this server is 192.10.23.12, how does your server know that a remote client is requesting the index.html web page from your web server?
1. xinetd gives you option to limit access to your server which is better than old inetd that didn't limit anything, so your server is more bulletproof.
2. Single Linux server can run all these and do not hang up twice per hour ;-) Each of these services uses different TCP port: http - 80, telnet - 23, email: smtp - 25, 587, pop3 - 110, imap - 143, ftp - mainly 21. Connecting to different ports connects you with different service. However only http protocol is capable to serve many domains on single IP address - read on VirtualHost directive of Apache server. VirtualHost has nothing in common with virtualization though.
Per the LQ Rules, please do not post homework assignments verbatim. We're happy to assist if you have specific questions or have hit a stumbling point, however. Let us know what you've already tried and what references you have used (including class notes, books, and Google searches) and we'll do our best to help. Also, keep in mind that your instructor might also be an LQ member.

He might even posses enough technical competence to enter his own question into Google (guess what the first result is for "xinetd and the system memory").

Do your own homework. And if you can't figure out how different services run on different ports, you either need to read your textbooks a little more carefully, or choose a different major.
