Grep commands hangs in ubuntu 10.04

Dear all,

My Linux box Centos 6.2 Get hangs when i execute grep command .when i hits ps aux it works ,But fails to exe these command ps aux | grep "tomcat"

Even i could int restart any service httpd,tomcat are getting hangs on restart .

Service httpd restart -Get hangs
ps aux | grep "tomcat" -Get hangs

I Never Getting result for the following two commands

Service httpd restart -Get hangs and then it never restarts
ps aux | grep "tomcat" -Get hangs and then it delivers no output
