Folders Deleted

Hi there,

I am using ubuntu 10.04 server as a FTP server.

Suddenly my machine got hanged and I reboot it. It toke sometime start but when it got started, my all folders disappeared and it is showing those files and folders which i have deleted few months back.

I am not sure what happened with it? but it seems like machine got restored automatically to some restore point. but i dont know how? i never configured any restore point even i dont know how to do this.

Please help me in this regard, as this is very crictical for me and i need to get back those folders which are disappeared.

Thanks in advance.

Where is the server located?
Who has (admin) access to it?
Does the server run anything besides FTP daemon?

Linux distributions don't come with any "restore point" capability out of the box.
Do your login records show anyone else logged in?
Do system and daemon logs show any anomalies?

If files are critical you have made backups you can restore, yes?
If not then now you know why.
Shut the machine down and read up on Photorec before using it.
