firebird telnet not working

Hi-

With firebid I try:

telnet localhost 3050

and get message:

Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

If i try ping 127.0.0.1 seems okay.

not sure what to do? I installed firebird classic ubuntu linux.

I have entries in hosts.allow and hosts.deny but I think they are related to sshd.

I am not a networking type person. I put the entry in the hosts file because I was sftp files with bitvisetunnelier and wanted to secure it. I connected from across the room with a linux to a windows machine.

After making a change in firebird.conf I do this:

mtdew3q@ubuntu:/etc/init.d$ ./firebird2.5-classic restart
* Preparing /var/run/firebird/2.5... [ OK

in firebird.conf I changed :

RemoteBindAddress = 127.0.0.1
RemoteServicePort = 3050

I am trying to connect to classic server at 127.0.0.1 at port 3050.

thanks for any tips!

hi-

I uninstalled classic server and installed superserver.

I had the superserver version running up in no time. Something isn't right with the classic version for me anyways. I noticed that I couldn't even get the server up and running with classic.

Kind of frustrating. I am a little behind where I'd like to be at this moment.

oh well...

I will start with a high stress day tomorrow and then tomorrow night I will see if I can do a little better.

thanks

Hi-

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Firebird2.1/On/Ubuntu

For anyone wanting to know what went wrong with classic server, this link has similar instructions to what helped me get running with superserver.
I think part of my problem is that I didn't have this link when I was trying to get classic running and didn't know these steps would help me. Firebird maybe changed a little.
I think this link will help you get either the classic or superserver running.

thanks
