I have a few Dell PowerEdge servers running CentOS 6.8, not that model number but R310's and R610's. I don't think would be any differences that would cause problems.

A co-worker has a bunch of PowerEdges, not sure what model they are but he is running Ubuntu with the latest LTS version.

...and the first three hits in Google for "DELL Poweredge-R230 linux" are:
https://certification.ubuntu.com/cer.../201510-19835/
http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/poweredge-r230/pd
https://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/vn/...heet_final.pdf

Dell's own spec sheets clearly say it supports Red Hat Enterprise and Suse Enterprise. Since CentOS is essentially a clone of RHEL, there should be no problems. Did you try to look this up, or ask your Dell salesperson????
