Deleting Duplicate files on server


Hi all,
I have ubuntu running on a file server. When I backup my main machine's home folder (kubuntu) to the file server, I create a folder with the date of the backup. So, for example, I have two folders Feb107 & Mar107
Often, these two folders will contain the same files. I'd like to compare the folders, note the identical files and delete the duplicate copy.

Is there a way to do this in Konqueror or from the command line. Either will be fine. Then, I'll create a script to do most of this for me.

Sounds like you want to do incremental backups, eg. you make one complete backup say once a week and then you just back up those files that have changed since the complete backup on a daily basis. There's lots of ways to do that with tar and rsync. Here's an article giving you an overview on how to do that with rsync which is probalby better if you are backing up to a network share instead of tape:
