Debian Server Crashes Regularly

Hey there,

I'm running a Debian Unstable server at home for local file sharing. Since a couple of days I'm getting frequent crashes (3 to 4 times a day). It happens mostly when running HellaNZB but it crashes without running HellaNZB as well.

I've checked the log's but I havent really been able to find anything out of the ordinary. The last messages are always firehol log messages so I tend to think it has something to do with a network service.

This is what was logged in the last 30 minutes before the logs stopped (I dont have an exact time of the crash):

Oct 29 22:07:06 XP1800 kernel: ''IN-WANInterface':'IN=eth0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.20 DST=192.168.1.255 LEN=242 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=138 DPT=138 LEN=$
Oct 29 22:16:06 XP1800 kernel: ''IN-WANInterface':'IN=eth0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.20 DST=192.168.1.255 LEN=242 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=138 DPT=138 LEN=$
Oct 29 22:26:06 XP1800 kernel: ''IN-WANInterface':'IN=eth0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.20 DST=192.168.1.255 LEN=242 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=138 DPT=138 LEN=$
Oct 29 22:37:07 XP1800 kernel: ''IN-WANInterface':'IN=eth0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.20 DST=192.168.1.255 LEN=242 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=138 DPT=138 LEN=$
Oct 29 22:49:08 XP1800 kernel: ''IN-WANInterface':'IN=eth0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.20 DST=192.168.1.255 LEN=242 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=138 DPT=138 LEN=$

I dont think this is anything useful but maybe someone is able to help me out? I'd appreciate it very much.

Regards

If the system is crashing repeatedly (and not just an application crash), I would suggest running some hardware diagnostics to check for a defective component.

maybe start with memtest86+ to check the RAM.
Use smartmontools to test the hard drive
a weak power supply or overheating CPU can cause system crashes.. make sure the system and CPU fans are all working properly.
