Constant RWX permissions


Hi everyone,

I'm using Debian Wheezy on a file server and I set up a sharing partition (through NFS and Samba) so that every client on my network can share files with each other.

The issue is that some files/folders created by one client cannot be deleted or modified by another. I would like to have constant 777 permissions on this partition and for each new file to be given these same permissions.

Somehow the solution of setting up a cronjob script of 'chmod -R 777' to activate every minute isn't appealing.

When you chmod your parent directory, assuming your allowing read/write/execute

chmod 2777 {folder}:Forces inheritance of the GID (group ID) from the parent object: See "setgid" man page
chmod 4777 {folder}: Forces inheritance of the UID (user ID) from the parent object See "setuid" man page
chmod 6777 {folder}: Forces inheritance of both the UID and GID from the parent object:

Learn to love your sticky bit and you can go forth and rule your domain! Google "Sticky Bit" if you're unfamiliar with the phrase.
