Config monitoring

Hey!

I'm currently working with this school project where i need to monitor my router's config with Debian server.
I got my router sending it's config everyday at 2 am to my Debian 8.4 server.
My server need's to archive every previous version of this config file and if file has been modified by somehow, it needs to be sent to domain's administrator with mail as attachment.
I'm only able to use dvd 1,2 and 3 as media without internet connection, it should be made easiest and fastest way as possible.
What do i need for this?

Cheers.

Hey!
Welcome to LQ!

No "easiest and fastest way as possible."
How are you going to mail the domain admin is there is no internet connection?

"Every previous version"...
Since it's already on the Debian host, find it and add something unique to the filename
e.g.:
Code:
cp conf.conf conf-$(date +%s).conf
Every time you write a new file, it gets a unique timestamp. El Cheapo Versioning.
Easy.

Server is running on virtual test environment with vlan.
With the easiest and fastest way i mean that i need to rework this again in very limited time and without access to external network as my final work in school.

I need a way to monitor router's config. If it is modified it needs to be sent with mail as attachment.

Have you learned the command yet to see if there is a difference between two files?

Is this some sort of test or homework? I would think they would allow internet access in the school for learning.

What have you researched thus far?
What have you tried thus far?
