Can You Samba Share a Parent and a Child

Hi,

currently I have a parent dir being shared like this:

[folderA]
path = /var/samba/folderA
valid users = @users_folderA
read only = no
writeable = yes

Was wondering if I can also add a child share like this?

[folderC]
path = /var/samba/folderA/folderB/folderC
valid users = @users_folderC
read only = no
writeable = yes

Not really concerned about permissions, just curious if it can be done or if the system will protest this kind of setup? Thanks!

If Folder B is a subdirectory of Folder A, it should be visible via Samba, assuming that the folder's permissions allow it to be shared. This would be the preferred approach to share a subdirectory.

Sub-folders as a separate share is no problem, you just have to remember that permissions will "fall down", so anyone that has access via group @users_folderA will have permissions on folderB and folderB/folderC

The "reverse" won't be true. Users that are accessing folderC won't "see" or be able to navigate back up the various levels.

Samba has no problems dealing with this
