Bandwidth controller with squid for Redhat linux


Dear All,

Is there any way to distribute ADSL Internet bandwidth between all client computers using squid proxy in RedHat Linux ?

No you can not do it with squid you need to use tc.

Actually you can restrict the bandwith by using:

delay_pools 2
delay_class 1 2
delay_class 2 1
delay_parameters 1  100000/100000 30000/30000
delay_parameters 2 32/32 16/16

delay_access 2 deny edv_abteilung
delay_access 2 allow langsameseite
delay_access 2 deny all

delay_access 1 deny edv_abteilung
delay_access 1 allow all
Finally you just have to find out what delay_class you need...

I was under the impression he meant all internet bandwidth not just web/ftp traffic.

please explain, I am not as expert to understand.

Delay pool is a good option if you want to give more or less download speed for a particualr extn like .dat,.avi etc for clients
