authoritative reverse dns

Hi there !
I have a dedicated server in a data-center using one IP.

The DNS I set up also reverse the ip and it is an authoritative dns server.

the server translates the IP correctly (on the server):
#host 80.x.x.x
x.x.x.80.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer ns1.mydomain.com.

But on the Internet the ip points to the data-center domain (on the internet)
#host 80.x.x.x
x.x.x.80.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer non-assigned.isp.com.

What should I do to resolve this reverse dns issue? Should I talk to the data-center?

Thank you

Hi ddaas,

The best thing in this case is to contact the ISP. Since they have ownership of that IP block, they are the ones who set the PTR records. Unless they have a strict policy, they will set the reverse to whatever you'd like.

Hope that helps
