Apace2 Custom Error problem

I have just recently setup a computer with openSuSE and an Apache2 web server. I decided that i didn't like the original errors so i started changing some. error 404 works fine, but whenever i get an error 403 the screen is just blank. When i look at the source, its there, but nothing is displayed. I can see the actual file in its directory fine, but it won't load it as a custom error. What is wrong?

There are a few small things you can check to see where the error is. Some things that come to mind:

When you make a request that generates the 403 error, what response header does the server return? Does this happen across multiple browsers? Was the default 403 page working when you first installed apache? What is the name of the file that you are using for the custom 403 error page?

Can you post the relevant configuration in httpd.conf that you changed for the custom 403 error.
