[CentOS][Apache]Can htaccess recursive redirects lead to performance issues?

Hello,

I am tracking down a problem that slows our web server down - it takes about 3 seconds before anything is transferred to clients - that's too much, but memory usage and such are already taken care of.
So I took a closer look at the logfiles, and noticed that every few seconds, an error message is informing about a recursive redirect.
Could that be the reason for those problems?
Increasing the limit for recursive redirects causes the server to slow down and stall totally, even FTP and SSH time out...

Thanks

It sounds like you found the problem. Redirects can definitely slow a machine down especially when in a loop.

Thanks a lot! Digged into it and found out that the "bad guy" was a default .htaccess from our shop system. Fixed it, now it works like a charm!
