Virus and Security

I need to find out if there is anyway I can get a virus through Kazaa or can someone get in to it through Kazaa. You see I put SuSE Linux on this computer in the spare room and before I dump the harddrive on the one I use the most in the bedroom I need to know something about security.I use nortons on it along with xp and im now sick of Windows evrytime microsoft sends a update the computer runs alittle slower, but anyway sofar im happy with Linux and want to know all about it,the question is about Kazaa it is used alot and after an hour or so of running the red exclamation point on the globe starts flashing and its even worse when the computer is not running through the router it flashes all the time with attacks, will these attacks be a problem with linux ,will the operating system be harmed in anyway, this is sofar my concern along with we get alot of virus attacks in our email that nortons deletes everyweek.

As far as I've seen, there are very few successful viruses made for *nix systems. But they do exist, last check on my fav. AV site shows none in the wild currently.
But Kazaa? IMO, I'd never let that on any of my systems, Linux or Win. It has a history of including Spyware and God knows what else. They claim to have removed all spyware, but still, would you take their word for it after the fact? If you want to move files around, use FTP. I've never had any trouble with ProFTPd, and people download stuff off me all day, from all areas of the world. And besides, there are many viruses now that are starting to use P2P to spread. Even if your Linux box isn't directly affected, the extra bandwidth needed to move viruses around adds up. My mail logs since Swen are now 5 times as long as before Swen was out. Swen also spreads thru Kazaa.
