Unable to keep password in mysql-server


hello
I installed the mysql.then i tried to put password as mysql -proot -uredhat but it displayed the error message as

ERROR 1045:Access denied for user:'root@localhost' (Using password: YES)
So please help me to put password on mysql

There is no password for root after MySQL is first installed. You can set a password the following way:

bash$ mysqladmin -u root password 'thisisyournewmysqlpasswd'

Also read the documentation at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/SET_PASSWORD.html
