Question Setting up a network firewall ?

This my first post and I hope I do it right.

How do I configure a spare pc as a firewall for my home and what distro would I use?

What type of research have you done already?

Those two questions are 2 miles wide (apiece).

I'd start with a gateway distro such as IPCOP (Smoothwall or Clarkconnect will work too), just to get my feet wet. Feel free to google those distros and read up on their system requirements.
