Smile Need Helped to continue an ISP

Hello Friends,

I need some suggestions from who are administrator and/or system engineer in an ISP.

Recently I'm appointed as a system engineer in one of renown isp in BD.

I know how to configure and how to install but I don't know what are the regular problems occur in the ISP.

So if u are informed me about such type of problems then I'll be prepared myself for that errors.

Please help me about the regular problems and what are requires to check regularly.

Cheer's

hi quashem,

typically - standard small to medium ISP system (excluded routing & switching part) maintenance will be focused on these areas :
- radius server - the most important part for remote access connection & billing system.
- bandwidth management - providing QoS
- ip assignment : DHCP and scopes.
- name lookup : at least 2 DNS servers and zones (current issue is DNS poisoning)
- messaging : one or more clustered mail servers and domains (spam handling, relay)
- www : if your ISP run www hosting service (that will also include messaging & file transfer etc).
- databases & replications
- backups & restores
- creating & reading the severs performance/LOG
- DMZ and intrusion detection/prevention (you need to work together with your network engineer to build/maintain this)
- etc

i think there are a lot more to do - but enough to make us busy all the time

HTH.
