Loagin failed after changing user homedir

Hi.
I have installed proftpd.

I created new user and set password with commands
Code:
useradd -s /sbin/nologin ftpusername
passwd ftpusername
I can login with this created user. I changed homedir in passwd from "/home/ftpusername" to "/var/www/html". Added user to apache as primary group (as apache group is owner of "/var/www/html"):
Code:
usermod -g apache ftpusername
Now i can't login with that user (i receive 530 error).
I changed home folder back to "/home/ftpusername" and can login again.
If i set
Code:
chown ftpusername:apache "/var/www/html"
- website doesn't work.
Can someone tell how i can allow ftpusername to access website folder with read/write permissions so that apache can run website too?

Thank you.
