Is this iptables script still good to use?

The date on it is from 2006, Would this give me any more security than using nothing?
OOPs, forgot to mention, this would be on a non server system, strictly single user, mostly for browsing the internet.

Actually, I think that's the one I started with. It took me a while to wrap my mind around rc.firewall. It's easier to use a graphical fronted like Firestarter. (Firestarter does require some Gnome libraries.)

I have amended it somewhat to add some permits to open the computer to the local network, to ssh, and to ssh over the internet.

I was looking for a gui frontend but Firestarter and Guarddog dont work with either, 2.6 kernel/KDE4.
I had used Guarddog before I upgraded and it was great.

Firestarter needs Gnome libraries. With Gnome installed, it has worked just fine on my most updated computers.

The hassle of getting it to work when Slackware dropped Gnome (I was trying to resolve the dependencies without actually installing Gnome just for the fun of it) was why I learned about rc.firewall scripts.
