How to audit shutdowns

Hi All

My ubuntu machine, which I never switch off, for some reason was off when I woke this morning. Whilst I know that you can check the reboots with the "last" command, is there a way of checking when the system was shut down and/or lost power unexpectedly?

I couldn't find anything in /var/log/dmesg . If anyone has any pointers to auditing an expected poweroff/shutdown/loss of power I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Ollie

i'd check the:

/var/log/messages

&

/var/log/boot

for more info concerning the unwanted shutdown.

Hi puntjuh

Thanks for the advice - I did look in there already and didn't see anything that gave any indication - I'm guessing that it just lost power.

I appreciate the advice though, thanks!
