how do I configure Linux to act as a general firewall?

I recently installed Xandros on one of my old computers. It installed easily and works great. It is connected to a router for access to the Internet and my home LAN.

I would like to restrict access to the Xandros box from the outside (not the LAN) to protect it and my other computers on my LAN.

I use ZoneAlarm on the rest of the LAN for protection.

What do I need to configure to protect the Xandros box and the rest of my LAN?

Thanks,

If your router is a NAT router, you already have excellent inbound protection from the Internet, as you're behind it and probes just reach it and not you. As for outbound connections, I don't think it's really necessary for Linux IMHO as there is very little malware.

If it's not a NAT router, then you can get a Linux firewall, Firestarter for example. Or there are more complicated ways, but that's easiest I think...
