Looks like I replied too soon. COMODO doesn't work correctly and I can't resolve the issues of missing kernel modules, redirfs.ko , avflt.ko

Thanks. ClamTK has problems. I can't update or adjust settings, ect. I wish there was an anti-virus program that would just work as it is suppose to once installed without jumping through hoops.

Hmm, I'll know to be careful recommending this program in the future...

I replied to your other thread concerning the missing dependencies, so you can check out that possibility but if you decide to uninstall Comodo, you can check out these other programs.

Regards...

antivirus on linux is not very common, because the general opinion is that it's simply not needed.
linux uses a different security model than windows and it is practically impossible to become infected.

malware that comes in through your browser is a slightly different topic, but you should be able to take care of it through your browser.

Comodo is third-party software, and closed source afaik. installing and using something like that is a risk in itself (but most probably all they want is your email address or some other bit of personal information).

ClamAV requires root privileges for most actions, iirc.

That's one half of the story. The other half is that the user base is too small to be worth it. Why bother writing a virus that will affect a much smaller portion of desktops compared to that can be infected by writing a "virus" targeting Windows users? Same goes for MacOS. It's not worth it.

If they really wanted to do it, script kiddies (errr... I mean "virus coders") would do it.

I know it's rare but it can happen.

That gives them a reason to write viruses for LINUX. False sense of security. If I am not mistaken on what I heard is there are 18 viruses for LINUX. While that is much less than Apple it's like nothing compared to Windows. Windows 10 is even worse because it is like a virus on it's own, sending out every kind of information possible. I like to be safe than be sorry.

I read an article not long ago that said that the user base thing is just a myth. Not needing an antivirus on Linux is really just because of its inherent security.

What I found.

After trying all anti-virus options I ended up with COMODO but there is only manual scanning because there is a problem with active scanning. There are users that claimed they fixed that issue but I found that fix doesn't work. I guess to have to be a computer programmer in order to fix it. I guess manual scanning is better than nothing.
