Palm has used Linux for new device

http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS2494029776.html

It is good to see more and more companies choosing Linux over MS and interesting to see Opera getting so much of the mobile device market over FireFox even though fireFox owns on the desktop, specially in the FOSS market.

Either way this is just more good news for the Linux community and I hope this helps palm dig out of the hole they are getting in over the past few years.

Interesting. It's not the only smartphone vendor that is using Linux, Motorola, Nokia and others have been experimenting with it for quite a while now...

This is probably the one embedded Linux venture with the most run up and so few results. I think the difference is that this is truly open and representative of GNU freedom. They do not know how to have a open platform and also have a closed off UI. Much like Sun's GPLing java they figuring it all out.

I know I contradicted my self but like in my last sentence the are not sure what to do. They want to believe in FOSS but will not trust their UI to it. I have said on linuxdevices that they should just open the whole platform with the UI. I do not think it will last as is.

It looks as though the GNU+Linux powered Palm phone device is scrapped. This device look clunky.
