have you tried some serious troubleshooting?
for example, i'd try to confirm the suspicion that it's your amd/radeon gpu/driver:
force linux to NOT load any graphics drivers (i think you need to add 'nomodeset' to boot linux command line), see if it helps.

fwiw, i use Xorg on archlinux and it works fine, and always has.

Upgrading xorg components seems to work fine.

Brave
Using testing packages is not a big deal. If testing package does not work, then its easy to revert back to stable versions.

I even install unstable packages if I have to.

there's no "unstable" on archlinux, the closest equivalent is [testing].
