When in single mode , logged in as root, issue vim /etc/inittab and change the init
default to run level 3 and save it by pressing ESC, then type :wq . Then reboot ,log in as root and issue mouseconfig, Xconfigurator
or if 'm not mistaken try setup at the prompt.
